Big Fat Zero
Yesterday evening, we decided to venture downtown to listen to a little music. As we left the Coliseum, we were each handed a bottle of Coke Zero.
"Hmm. What's this?" I wondered (yes, out loud).
I studied the label and saw that it was calorie free, carb free, and low in sodium.
My immediate thought was, "How is this different than diet Coke?".
Having suffered through the introduction of "New Coke" in the 80's and my recent disappointment with the too syrupy sweet taste of Diet Coke with Splenda fresh in my mind, I wondered if maybe this could be the diet Coke for me, and decided to go ahead and try it.
Immediately, I realized, "Hey - this tastes like regular Coke!"
I've since learned that Coke is marketing Coke Zero as "Real Coca-Cola Taste With Zero Calories".
And had I stopped at that first sip, I'd have to agree. The more I drank, the more I realized that once again, change is not always good. If you're dying to try it, I still have half a bottle in my fridge, but once it's gone, I don't plan on stocking up with anything other than the real thing...

What does it use as its sweetner?
The press release says it's "a blend of aspartame and acesulfame potassium" - I know aspartame is what's in Equal, but I've never heard of the other...
Huh. aspartame is what's in diet coke.. the other one is commonly used with aspartame to make it taste more like real sugar..
Interesting, I'll have to try it. Boy, coke is really spewing out the alternate concoctions these days..
Coke C2, Diet coke, Diet Coke w/ Splenda, and now this!
And don't forget, Diet Coke with a cowboy, good stuff..
Most people would have just tasted the stuff without over-analyzing the contents, nutritional value, and historical significance of the formula. Then again, we're talking you...
MS,
are you jealous of dblu and her reasoning? or perhaps something else? what is the real story you are hiding behind?
Give it a rest - she's known me forever. She's just very well acquainted with my thought processes and other idiosyncrasies.
Hmm, maybe you are MS....
Maybe I am what???
Not a big Coke drinker anymore...in fact, the last Coke I had was under doctor's orders after I fainted. They thought it was lack of food in my life (which is laughable). I chalk it up to more along the lines of them twisting my broken finger around like it was a propellor on one of those balsa wood airplanes. "Does that hurt?!?"
Anyway, having not had caffeine via liquid form for over two years when this happened I was suddenly as high as a kite.
What was the point of this story again?
Ldub,
what did the cowboy think of the new coke?
Well, he drank it... maybe he should answer that question. He's more of a diet pepsi fan, though.
all righty then, I keep checking for a new blog...
Diet pepsi for the cowboy? He is truly a man's man.
Linda, does he ride on a white horse? and does he have single friends?
