Recommendations welcomed

Two weeks from now, I'll be on vacation. A real vacation that lasts a week, includes a beach, and doesn't involve checking in with work.

So if anyone has any suggestions for fun in the Ft. Lauderdale area, let me know. We're already planning a day trip to Key West, and the mandatory over-eating of fresh seafood.

Go to the Rustic Inn Crab House. Waterfront dining and steamed garlic blue crabs. Yum!

Try the Huddle House, great food, but it might be crowded, if so, try Stuckey's

Stuckey's?? in the Dale? You gotta be kidding!! Try going to Hermie's kitchen, or the IUgrill, always good food, but bring your meal card

The key here is "not checking in with work."

If I were going to Key West I don't believe I'd be coming back....

My suggestions may not be as 'fun' as the first 4 or so....but when I went to Lauderdale I did a one-day Scuba diving thing - started in the pool in the morning and then we went on two ocean dives - much better than snorkeling since I didn't ever swallow water!

In Key West I had a blast taking a 2 or 3 hours catamaran ride out about 30 or 45 minutes and then snorkeling for a while - although nice, this was where I found out I don't like to snorkel. Anyway, the way back was relaxing just laying out on the deck - with free wine and beer (and soft drinks). Although YEARS ago so there is probably inflation, it was only about $25. Oh yeah - and the people watching was interesting, of course I found I went at the worst (or best depending on point of view) time since it was Halloween weekend and they were having 'Fastasty Fest'....think Mardi Gras without the rules.

hey girl, as you know it's been eight years since i was in lauderdale and key west. what i do remember about key west was that you have to go to sloppy joe's and to hog's breath. they are both bars (leave it to me to find them) and they are way fun. i wish that i could remember the name of the resturant that the ex and i ate at for dinner one night. it was in an old victorian house and had a huge veranda (where we dined). the food and service were excellent. have fun!!

have you thought about going to a baseball game?? maybe the cowboy can sing the national anthem? that would be so nice....

I think the cowboy was checking to see if a baseball game would work with our schedule, and of course, anyone would appreciate the experience of him singing the national anthem. We're going to a Sounds game in a few weeks and I've already made the call to see if he can perform it there. Maybe we can get him some airtime on the local news...

THe local news? no one, I mean no one watches the local news, if you are in the witness relocation program, perfect place to be so no one will see you..

Ditto that!!

can i come with you guys to the sounds game? especially if the cowboy is going to sing? wouldn't want to miss that! on second thought, can the golf pro come too? maybe he and the cowboy could do a duet!
