Restaurant recommendations... anyone?

So, let's just say you have this friend.

And her husband decides to coordinate a dinner/parents' night out with 6 couples (that's 12 people total).

And your friend tells her husband a week ago he should start calling to get a table/room for a party that large during the holiday Christmas season.

And your friend's husband says he'll do it and she needs to not worry about it.

And now it's Monday afternoon and the big night is 5 nights away and 6 couples have 6 babysitters and are expecting a good meal out.

And your friend's husband calls her and asks if she can call and make a reservation for 12 people on this coming Saturday night.

Short of waiting in the lobby at Old Spaghetti Factory for a couple of hours, any ideas?

The Acorn, Radius 10, Mad Platter, Flemings, see if Park Cafe has a room they could give you... maybe even Sambuca but away from the stage.

Good luck on this one. I have a contact at Acorn if you'd like me to see what the chances are of getting in...although I'm sure if you play the "my husband's a famous guy on tv" you might be able to get some special treatment! LOL

I don't know if La Paz takes reservations, but they have a separate room that will hold 12 people. There's a fireplace in there.

Also, since you're in that part of town, Volare at the Operland is actually quite good, but may insist on a fixed menu (but will then let people order off the regular menu if they ask).

Oh, and Park Cafe does have a room, but I don't think it's large enough for 12. Sambuca is loud even if you're not near the stage and they have a band. Bound'ry doesn't have a room, but they accommodate large parties and the food's so yummy. And Rumba would put you out on the patio and turn on the heaters for you if you call ahead. Note the tables are plastic, though.

I like Ginger's suggestion of pulling out the local celebrity card.

Thanks guys - I've been making calls since yesterday. I think our "celebrity card" might get us a private dining room at McDonald's. :)

I have no idea what their waiting list is like, but Mirror on 12 South was really good. We went with about 12 people for a birthday dinner and the food was amazing. But again, I didn't make the rezzies....maybe now that the 12S hubbub has died down a bit it'd be easier to get in.

You could also try Chapel Bistro in East Nashville. I haven't been in there yet, but it looks nice. If you're able to do something a little less fancy, Rosepepper (also in East Nasty) usually can help us out with big tables, and the talapia is magnifico!

Thanks everyone. I've called almost every restaurant you guys requested (and then some)...

Just as an FYI, if you're ever in a crunch, here are some notes:

La Paz won't give up their room or take a reservation for 12 people - according to them, we're not a large group and we should just show up and expect to be seated quickly. It's definitely an option.

Lots of "you can call ahead after noon on Saturday" replies, with the estimated wait once we arrived being 30 minutes to an hour. All chains, but all decent food, and again, possibly an option.

If we were willing to wait until 8:30 or later, we could easily get a table for 12 with 4 days notice (Buca, PF Chang's, Fleming's, Morton's Stockyard...). I usually don't mind dining after 8 PM, except if we meet everybody for drinks between 6:00 and 6:30, there's no way I'll be eating dinner. Drinks will be my dinner.

Boundry had an opening for 12 people at any time we wanted Saturday. Has everyone finally wised up and stopped going to Boundry (I'm not a fan), or do they over-promise reservations?

I was gonna suggest Buca next, but 8:30 is pretty late...

There's always Chuck E Cheese's!

P.S., Today, I'm the one having trouble with comments! What's up with Blogger? grrrr

try watermark in the gulch..it is realy really good, as is Radius 10.

The Chapel bistro in East Nashville WAS good, but alas, it is closed.

Germantown Cafe, in my neck of the woods, is also very good..they have enlarged their dining room, and might have the space.
