J.J. Dubin: Year 1, a photo review

J.J. Dubin: Year 1, a video review

First, there was Dance baby!, where J.J. grooved to Gunther.

And J.J.'s first interview, before he was strong enough to grab my hand and keep me from "making him talk".

His first meal, in three parts.

Swinging at the zoo.

Laughing Baby, where he finds much humor in my suffering.

Staying awake.

Watching Teletubbies.

The second interview, where he talks on his own.

Staying awake again.

Some dinner time fun.

Will he crawl?

We are the Preds, ole, ole, ole!

His first play date with Maclaine (and dancing to "Hound Dog").

Grits and bye-bye.

Play date the second.

A sideways horsie ride.

Splish, splash!

Climbing the stairs.

Coming attractions? Stay tuned!!!

Time to get another gate...

As we were getting the downstairs ready for his birthday party, J.J. decided he needed to check out things upstairs. And (of course) he paused on each step to do a happy dance.

Video here.

Marathon weekend

Well, we survived the marathon... Next up is a birthday party for my little guy who just happens to be turning one in a few days!

I've made 6 pounds of chicken salad, 4 cups of pimiento cheese, a big fruit salad and we have lots of chips and treats, not to mention some cakes (Elmo for us and Cookie Monster for my little cookie monster to destroy) and ice cream.

Clown? Heck no! Who needs a clown when you got Big Joe for a daddy?

And the best news... I hired a photographer, so there will be no "Sorry, I was so busy, there aren't any pictures" post. :)

Can you hear me NOW?

So, I get somewhat annoyed when Joe calls me when he's at work. Specifically, when he's on location at a sporting event and is shouting into his cell phone and can't hear a word I'm saying because of all the noise.

Our yard guy is out back, attacking our giant hill of weeds. I was building a house (mom bought it from the 4-year old who lives next to her for $3 - they both were pleased with the deal) for J.J. (yeah, I'm still keeping way too busy because of the no work thing) and heard him shouting and thought he might be hurt when I realized he was on the phone.

His poor wife...

Splish Splash

OK, I know Joe wants to post these, so pretend you haven't seen them when he puts them on his blog... I just HAD to share!

My sister bought J.J. a singing duckie on the way home from Louisiana. It is without a doubt a BIG hit.

See for yourself:

J.J. and MacLaine had their second play date a few weeks ago... I was worried that they might not remember each other, but they were more than happy to see each other!

8 days until J.J.'s first birthday.

6 days until the entire house has to be in shape J.J.'s first birthday party.

1 day until I am a normal human being again accept my job.

I think my mind will be in a much better place once that's over with.

There's no place like home

The sign that greets you as you enter Mississippi says, "It's just like coming home" (or something like that). I have to say that pulling into our driveway yesterday evening with my sleeping angel in the back seat was a much more enjoyable experience for me than crossing into Mississippi from Louisiana at 10:30 yesterday morning.

So. We're home from a busy time in Louisiana. Lots of food and fun and family and chaos (sorry, I'm too frazzled to think of another "f"). I sat down at the computer this morning and tried to catch up on stuff, but have to admit I did the "mark all as read" thing in my Google Reader a few minutes ago...

Time to unpack the car and get this house in shape. This may take a while!

*Note to self: breathe*

I'm not saying I've had a hectic past week or two, but in an attempt to call Joe, I may or may not have just called my own cell phone from the house phone. Even worse, it took several moments for me to register what was going on as I saw the display on my cell phone that said "home" was calling and was still holding my cell home phone to my ear, waiting for Joe to answer.

At least I (1) didn't answer my cell phone, wondering who it was calling and (2) hung up the phone before the call went to my own voice mail.

Well, J.J. and I are hitting the road. We leave this evening for the fine town of Spring Hill, where we'll be spending the night with his Grandma, who just so happens to turn 60 today (she shares a birthday with David Letterman - I never thought of him as being old enough to be my parent...). Tomorrow morning, we pick up his favorite aunt and head to Louisiana.

Have a great weekend. I'm accepting a job when I get back next week, and hope to have another week or two free before heading back to being a productive (paycheck-earning) member of society. Maybe I'll have time to actually post a few pictures from our trip!

"See you" later!

What a perfect way to end the day

J.J. fell asleep in my arms in the rocking chair this evening. I sat there, watching him dream.

And I know he was dreaming, because he smiled and giggled, then sighed.

Good night, happy boy. Sweet dreams.

Talk about major suckage...

So, Kathy thinks she's got this one in the bag, but I have to say I'm feeling lucky (punk).

Go here and sign up to win a Dyson Slim Vacuum.

And, if you don't want it, you can always regift it to me. May 24th is right around the corner! :)

Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

I just found out it's Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. That makes deciding what to do for lunch very easy.

Bonus: Go to the Serious Eats post for a primer on the original Peanut Butter Jelly Time animation and to view the Family Guy clip. Now.

Happy celebrating and don't forget the milk to wash it down!

11 months

It's hard to believe J.J. is already 11 months. I have to get to planning his birthday party...

We went to the park today with my mom and sister. The idea was to go on the baby swings. J.J. had other ideas. Like climbing up the slide and through the tunnel and trying his best to be a big boy. It sounds so cliché, but he's growing up so fast.

Standing is the preferred position. In the crib, in the play pen, while getting in the highchair or car seat. He stands at the front door, staring out at the yard, yelling to go out and play. He stands at the piano, banging on the keys over his head. He stands in the dining room and tries to grab whatever is on the table or buffet. He stands in the ducky tub, stomping his feet in the water and laughing.

He's also learned how to fall. The first week or so of standing was scary. Falling was inevitable, and usually involved a face plant into the floor (and sometimes too close to the edge of a table). Now, he falls with ease. The butt goes back, the arms go out, and he falls with a soft thud as he lands on the padding of his diaper. Then, he claps, because falling is fun.

Everything is fun. Eating is fun, going for wagon rides is fun, playing in the playpen is fun, riding in the car is fun. There is no better sound than his laughter, and we hear it often.

Happy 11 month birthday, my happy little boy!
